Welcome to Scott County's Elementary Cross Country Team! We are excited that your child is interested in running with us! Cross Country is a challenging but rewarding sport. It is tough physically as well as mentally. We compete individually as well as a team. We foster good sportsmanship and teamwork.  Our cross country team is open to runners kindergarten through 5th grade from any of the public schools in Scott County Kentucky. We usually practice three days a week for one hour after school. Most meets are held on Saturdays with a few meets during the week. It is encouraged that your runner attend as many practices and meets as possible. There is a correlation between training and success in meets.  Although there is only one winner in a race, coaches focus on PR's (personal records.)  Our coaches celebrate individual success and recognize individual effort. WHAT IS CROSS COUNTRY? Athletes usually race across open terrain, most often through a combination of woods, fields and hills. Not on a fixed track like in track and field. Course distances and terrains differ for each race but averages 1-1.8 miles. The greatest thing about cross country (XC) is that everyone competes! Everyone runs the same course. However, the first 7 runners to finish are considered the scoring team, but ALL the athletes get to participate. There are no cuts and no bench on which to sit and watch others compete. All athletes are expected to give their best in practice and at the meets. All runners will be required to run a minimum of a 15 minute mile to participate in the meets. Coaches are willing to work with and assist any runner that isn't meeting this requirement. This requirement is in place so none of our runners hold up the meets. AGES:  Scott Country Cross Country is open to all public school students grades Kindergarten-5th. COMMUNICATION: Al...

PRACTICE * Runners are expected to run during practice. In the past, we have struggled with kids REFUSING to run. This is a running sport. We understand that it is difficult and everyone starts out struggling but we need to see effort. We do not have the time or the man power right now to cater to those who refuse to try. We will do our best to find ways to motivate and encourage. If your runner is struggling, please let us know so we can find a solution. * If your runner decides t...
